Request for Public Review and Comment on the 2022 Older Americans Act Funding Proposal

In accordance with the Older Americans Act (Section 315(c)(1)), the Minnesota River Area Agency on Aging is soliciting the views of older adults, providers and other stakeholders on two parts of its 2022 funding proposal to the Minnesota Board on Aging.

  • Plans for Program Development and Coordination Activities funded under Title III-B (Supportive Services.) Download summary (pdf).

MNRAAA will be developing and implementing programs for individuals age 60 years and older and their caregivers in the Southwest region of Minnesota. This public hearing meeting is an opportunity for the community to provide input for the plan.

 

Public Hearing
Individuals may give oral testimony at the Public Hearing to be held virtually on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at 9:00 AM. Testimony is limited to five minutes per person. RSVP to [email protected] by 4:30 PM on Monday, July 12, 2018 to to submit your written comments or to register your intent to speak at the hearing.

Enrolling in Medicare – Getting the Information you Need

Understanding Medicare can be overwhelming for most people. Knowing when and how to enroll can feel like a daunting process. But understanding some of the basics of Medicare will help you to take charge. Whether you are approaching age 65 or helping a friend or family member to understand their options, here are a few key things to know about enrolling in Medicare:

  • You can only enroll in Medicare at certain times.
  • There are factors, such as age and employment status, that determine when you should enroll in Medicare to avoid paying penalties.
  • While some people are automatically enrolled in Medicare, most have to enroll themselves. You can enroll in Medicare by calling your local Social Security office or by visiting ssa.gov.
  • You have choices about how to receive your Medicare benefits and coverage, and you can make changes to your benefits and coverage during certain times of the year and if you qualify for a special enrollment period.
  • People with limited income and resources may be eligible to get help paying for some costs of Medicare.

Assisted Living Changes in Minnesota

Did you know that effective August 1, 2021, Assisted Living Licensure takes effect in Minnesota?
What does this mean for you?
Experts from the field talk about changes from the State of Minnesota, Provider and Consumer end.

PRESENTERS:
  • Director of Assisted Living, Housing & Home Care, Care Providers of Minnesota, Jill Schewe has worked in and with assisted living communities her entire career. As a former assisted living manager, her experience was in startup, management, and operations of several assisted living communities. In her current role, Jill works with assisted living providers on any topic they need help with to aid in their success, including licensing, policy, payment, and operational systems. She understands the needs of older adults and home- and community-based services alike. Jill has a BA in sociology and gerontology from Winona State University and an MA in management from St. Mary’s University of Minnesota.
  • Lindsey Krueger is the director of Office of Health Facilities Complaints (OHFC), current program manager for the Home Care and Assisted Living Program (HCALP) and overseeing the implementation of Assisted Living Licensure. Lindsey has been with the Minnesota Department of Health (MOH) for over 5 years. Lindsey is a registered nurse with previous experience working in the acute and long-term care settings. Since April 2020, Lindsey has helped lead MDH’s COVID-19 response for long-term care.
  • Mary Jo George is the Associate State Director of Advocacy for AARP Minnesota. Mary Jo leads AARP’s advocacy efforts in the areas of health reform, retirement security, and consumer and financial protections. She has over 20 years’ experience in government relations work. Prior to joining AARP, Mary Jo worked as a lobbyist for a number of health advocacy organizations including most recently the Minnesota Nurses Association. Mary Jo has a successful track record passing legislation in the areas of mental health, long-term care and disability insurance law, including the passage of the American’s with Disability Act (ADA); the Affordable Care Act; the Women’s Economic Security Act and the Assisted Living Licensure Act.
