MNRAAA Announces Retirement of Board Chair, Robert Roesler and election of the new Board Chair, Kandyce Peton

The Minnesota River Area Agency on Aging (MNRAAA) has announced a new chair for their board of directors, Kandyce Peton. Peton will take over the role on January 1, 2023. Peton will take over as Robert Roesler retires from the board of directors.

Robert Roesler

“Roesler has been an integral part of the organization,” stated Jason W. Swanson, MNRAAA executive director. “He saw the final transition from the regional development commissions into a stand-alone non-profit and the transition from the previous executive director, Linda Giersdorf, to me.” Roesler served as the chair of the board for the last six years.

“As my term on the Board of Directors at MNRAAA comes to a close, I wish to thank the staff, management team, and the many board members I have had the privilege to work with in the past years. I look forward to seeing the many new opportunities for seniors provided for by MNRAAA in the future.” Roesler stated on his retirement.

“Roesler has done a phenomenal job mentoring not only myself, our staff, and our board. Peton has been and will continue to be a strong advocate for older adults in our area,” commented Swanson.

Kandyce Peton

Peton currently lives in Courtland and is a retired registered nurse who has worked nationally in hospitals, health systems and specialty surgery centers. She is a graduate of Connecting Nicollet County, a leadership development program. Ms. Peton participated as a volunteer nurse with the Southwest Minnesota National Honor Flight to assist World War II veterans in traveling to Washington, D.C. She currently volunteers in her community and participates in activities at her local church.

“I am so excited; this is going to be a great year. We have a lot of stuff going on, and I am thrilled to be a part of this organization,” stated Peton about her becoming the new Board Chair.

The MNRAAA Board of Directors, which features professionals from the twenty-seven-county area, is a volunteer governing board. Members of the board range from a director of nursing services at an area hospital to a registered dietitian. Slayton Office Update – April 2021

As we continue to navigate the waters of the COVID-19 Pandemic, MNRAAA, like so many other organizations, continues to operate in a virtual setting.
Last March, we temporarily closed our offices in Mankato and Slayton, pivoting all staff to working from home. MNRAAA continues to provide services for older adults and caregivers during the pandemic.

While all staff continue to work from home, MNRAAA has made the decision to permanently close our Slayton office location. The Mankato office will remain temporarily closed until further notice. With the Slayton office closed, MNRAAA is able to maintain all staff. Staff that worked in the Slayton office will continue to work remotely.

MNRAAA and the Senior LinkAge Line will continue to offer classes and presentations virtually in our twenty-seven counties. Although the MNRAAA sign on the building has been taken down from the Slayton office, it does not mean that our presence is gone. Just the opposite, MNRAAA is working hard to ensure that we represent and assist all of the communities in our service area.

Our staff, volunteers, board members, and community partners want to be available to you.

You can continue to reach MNRAAA online at MNRAAA.org or on Facebook at facebook.com/MNRAAA.

Thank you all for your continued support of our organization.

Happy Holidays from MNRAAA 2020

Greetings:

We want to take this opportunity on behalf of the Minnesota River Area Agency on Aging organization to wish you and yours happy holidays and Merry Christmas.

The year 2020, as has been stated numerous times since the calendar flipped from 19 to 20, has been a difficult one. We can sit here and reflect on all the negatives and get nothing accomplished. Or we can find that positive item, that take-away, that one glimmer of hope and be grateful for that.

The challenges have been immense and have taken a toll on every facet of our lives; however, we believe that we have been able to shift to meet our communities’ needs and this has only made us stronger. And with this strength, we shall continue growing and building into a prosperous new year!

We wish you, your loved ones, organizations and your communities the same hope for 2021.

All the best,

The Minnesota River Area Agency on Aging
